India on Tuesday formally unveiled the logo, theme and official website for India’s BRICS Chairship 2026, outlining a “humanity-first” and people-centric approach focused on resilience, innovation, cooperation and sustainability.

The launch event in New Delhi was led by S. Jaishankar, Minister of External Affairs, and was attended by representatives of BRICS member and partner countries, international organisations, senior officials of the Government of India, resident commissioners of states, think tanks and media.

“I am extremely pleased to welcome you all this morning to the formal unveiling of the Logo, Theme and Website for India’s Chairship of BRICS for 2026,” Dr. Jaishankar said, formally marking the start of India’s preparations for its BRICS 2026 leadership role.

Noting that the event coincided with Makara Sankranti, also known as Lohri, Magh Bihu and Pongal, the External Affairs Minister linked the symbolism of renewal with India’s global outlook. “Just as these festivals convey hope and goodwill, India’s BRICS Chairship will seek to bring together the potential of BRICS countries for the greater global welfare,” he said.

Dr. Jaishankar highlighted that India’s BRICS Chairship 2026 comes at a significant milestone, as BRICS completes twenty years since its inception. Over this period, he said, BRICS has evolved into a major platform for cooperation among emerging markets and developing economies.

He noted that the grouping has expanded its agenda and membership in response to changing global realities, while continuing to emphasise people-centric development, dialogue and practical cooperation—core pillars of India’s BRICS 2026 vision.

Referring to the current international environment, Dr. Jaishankar said geopolitical uncertainty, economic volatility, climate risks, technological change and persistent development gaps continue to shape global decision-making. In this context, he described BRICS as an important forum for dialogue and cooperative responses that respect national priorities and different stages of development.

Articulating India’s approach, the External Affairs Minister said, “India approaches its Chairship with a ‘humanity first’ and a ‘people-centric’ approach, inspired by the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”

He said the BRICS 2026 theme — “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability” — reflects India’s belief that cooperation among BRICS members can address shared challenges in a balanced and inclusive manner. The theme underscores capacity-building, innovation-led growth and sustainable development as central to India’s BRICS Chairship agenda.

Explaining the symbolism of the BRICS India 2026 logo, Dr. Jaishankar said it blends tradition with modernity. The petals incorporate the colours of all BRICS member countries, representing inclusivity, unity in diversity and shared growth, while conveying that BRICS draws strength from the collective contributions of its members while respecting distinct national identities.

The External Affairs Minister also launched the official BRICS India website (brics2026.gov.in), describing it as a central digital platform for India’s BRICS Chairship. “It will provide information on meetings, initiatives and outcomes, and will facilitate transparency, engagement and timely dissemination of information throughout the year,” he said.

Outlining priorities for BRICS 2026, Dr. Jaishankar said the four pillars—Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability—will provide a coherent framework across BRICS’ political and security, economic and financial, and cultural and people-to-people pillars.

Under the resilience pillar, he said India intends to work with BRICS partners to build institutional and structural capacities capable of withstanding global shocks, including cooperation in agriculture, health, disaster risk reduction, energy security and supply chains.

On innovation, he emphasised that new and emerging technologies must remain people-centric, with enhanced cooperation in startups, MSMEs and frontier technologies contributing to inclusive and equitable global development.

On sustainability and cooperation, Dr. Jaishankar said India would work to advance climate action, promote clean energy and support sustainable development pathways in a manner that is fair and sensitive to national circumstances.

Calling for reformed multilateralism, he said the need for a more inclusive and effective global order has never been more urgent, stressing that institutions such as the United Nations, WTO, IMF and World Bank must better reflect contemporary realities.

He also highlighted the role of the New Development Bank, describing it as a key instrument of BRICS economic cooperation, and reaffirmed India’s commitment to strengthening it as a credible, responsive and financially sustainable institution.

Emphasising people-to-people exchanges, Dr. Jaishankar said cooperation in youth, culture, education, sports, tourism and academic interaction would remain central to India’s BRICS Chairship 2026, helping to deepen collaboration and build a stronger sense of BRICS community.

Concluding his remarks, he said India views BRICS as a constructive platform that complements the broader multilateral system. “Guided by the principles of mutual respect, sovereign equality and consensus, India will seek to make its Chairship inclusive, practical, people-centric and outcome-oriented,” he said.
