In a firm yet balanced statement, the G7 Foreign Ministers and the European Union have condemned the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, and urged both India and Pakistan to exercise maximum restraint to avoid further escalation.
Representing Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the European Union, the G7 foreign ministers expressed deep concern over the April 22 attack, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians, including a national of Nepal. Labeling it an “egregious terrorist attack,” the statement underscored the group’s strong and united stance against terrorism in all its forms.
At the same time, the G7 leaders voiced alarm over the potential for further military escalation between India and Pakistan—two armed neighbors with a history of conflict. “We are deeply concerned for the safety of civilians on both sides,” the joint statement read, emphasizing the human cost of rising tensions.
With tensions mounting following India’s military response under Operation Sindoor, the G7 called for de-escalation and encouraged direct dialogue as the only sustainable path to peace. “A peaceful outcome through diplomacy must remain the priority,” the ministers emphasized.
This statement comes at a critical moment, as international observers and stakeholders urge calm and constructive engagement. The G7 reiterated its commitment to monitoring the situation closely and supporting all efforts toward a swift and lasting diplomatic resolution.
As global powers weigh in, the message is clear: restraint, dialogue, and diplomacy must prevail over confrontation and conflict.
