A Decade of India Mobile Congress: From Market to Digital Architect

The India Mobile Congress (IMC) is an annual event co-organized by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), supported by multiple government and non-government bodies. Over the past decade, IMC has evolved into Asia’s largest platform for digital innovation, tech collaboration, and future technology dialogue.

The 2026 edition marks IMC’s 10th anniversary, a significant milestone in India’s digital journey. Since 2022, Narendra Modi has personally inaugurated India Mobile Congress, highlighting its importance in India’s digital transformation strategy. Continuing this tradition, Prime Minister Modi is expected to inaugurate IMC 2026, reinforcing the national priority placed on digital public infrastructure, advanced manufacturing, AI-driven networks, and future-ready digital ecosystems.

By unveiling IMC 2026 at MWC Barcelona, India has extended a global invitation — positioning New Delhi as the next global destination for discussions on emerging technologies, secure digital networks, semiconductor ecosystems, 5G/6G innovation, AI integration, and scalable digital infrastructure.

Building on the Success of IMC 2025

The credibility of IMC 2026 is grounded in the scale and impact of IMC 2025, held from 8–11 October 2025 at Yashobhoomi, New Delhi.

According to the IMC 2025 Post Show Report:

  • Over 147,000 attendees

  • Representation from 101 countries

  • 918 speakers across 133 sessions

  • 346 exhibitors and 465 startups

  • 1,512 technology use cases showcased

  • 712 investor meetings facilitated

IMC 2025 spotlighted advancements in AI, Deep Tech, cybersecurity, semiconductor innovation, smart mobility, satellite communications, quantum technologies, and intelligent digital infrastructure. Participation from 13 ministries demonstrated India’s coordinated approach to digital growth.

The Aspire 2025 startup program featured 465 startups and more than 100 investors, with mentoring sessions, global pitch events, and cross-border collaboration opportunities. The event generated over 3.1 billion impressions and 912 million video views, cementing IMC’s reputation as a global digital innovation hub.

These achievements now power the ambition of IMC 2026 — the 10th edition aimed at elevating India’s position as a global digital innovation leader.

Bharat Pavilion: Showcasing India’s Tech Innovation Strength

At Mobile World Congress 2026 Barcelona, the Bharat Pavilion demonstrated India’s transition from being one of the world’s largest digital consumers to becoming a creator and exporter of advanced digital solutions.

The pavilion showcased indigenous 5G stacks, fibre expansion, semiconductor ambitions, AI-enabled network solutions, and high-performance digital infrastructure platforms. A key highlight was the launch of the T31600-D3 Hyper-scalable DCI Platform at the booth of Tejas Networks, signaling India’s growing capabilities in advanced digital infrastructure engineering.

India’s presence at MWC 2026 reflected a broader strategic shift — from market scale to technology leadership, product innovation, and trusted digital partnerships.

Breaking the Cost Barrier: India’s Scalable Digital Model

In his address at the GSMA Ministerial Programme, Minister Scindia emphasized the theme “Breaking the Cost Barrier,” advocating affordable and scalable models for digital infrastructure deployment.

India’s digital transformation — from becoming the world’s fastest 5G deployer to building indigenous telecom stacks and AI-native innovation ecosystems — has demonstrated that innovation and affordability can move together.

This model resonates strongly with emerging economies seeking inclusive digital connectivity and resilient digital ecosystems.

From Barcelona to the 10th Edition of IMC in New Delhi

The unveiling of IMC 2026 at Mobile World Congress Barcelona marks the beginning of a global outreach journey for India’s premier digital innovation event.

Minister Scindia also extended a global invitation to industry leaders, innovators, and policymakers: “I invite the world to join us at IMC 2026 from 7–10 October in New Delhi to build what’s next, together.”

With over 1.2 billion digital subscribers, expanding 5G infrastructure, accelerating semiconductor initiatives, and one of the world’s most vibrant startup ecosystems, India is increasingly viewed as a digital architect of the future.

As IMC enters its 10th edition, backed by the Department of Telecommunications and COAI and inaugurated by Prime Minister Modi, it stands as a symbol of India’s confidence in leading global conversations on future technology and digital innovation.

Barcelona set the international spotlight. New Delhi will host the defining dialogue.

IMC 2026 will not only celebrate a decade of India Mobile Congress — it will help design the next decade of global digital innovation.
