EAM Dr. S. Jaishankar's Visit to The Netherlands, Advances India-Netherlands Bilateral Ties

External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar paid an official visit to The Netherlands from 19–20 May 2025, reinforcing the deepening India-Netherlands strategic partnership in key areas such as defence, digital technology, green energy, and global governance.

During the visit, EAM called on Prime Minister Dick Schoof, conveying warm greetings from PM Modi and expressing appreciation for the Netherlands’ statement of solidarity in the global fight against terrorism. Both sides reviewed the progress in bilateral ties and agreed to expand engagement through regular high-level visits and exchanges. The leaders highlighted the growing strategic convergences between the two countries and the need to strengthen cooperation in a multipolar world.

In his meeting with Foreign Minister Caspar Veldkamp, EAM discussed the full spectrum of bilateral cooperation and exchanged views on regional and global issues. The Ministers expressed satisfaction with progress across areas including trade and economy, water management, health, agriculture, education, science and technology, and cultural exchanges. Both sides emphasized the importance of expanding collaboration in emerging technologies, including digital innovation, artificial intelligence (AI), semiconductors, and green hydrogen.

A substantive meeting with Defence Minister Ruben Brekelmans focused on enhancing India-Netherlands defence and security cooperation. The two sides discussed steps to take the bilateral defence partnership to the next level, highlighting the importance of maritime cooperation and resilient security frameworks.

As part of his outreach, EAM also addressed a select gathering of strategic and international affairs experts from prominent think tanks. Discussions centered on India-EU engagement, strategic autonomy, and the opportunities for deeper India-Netherlands collaboration in an era of global complexity and multipolarity.


EAM also interacted with members of the Indian diaspora in the Netherlands, recognizing their vital contribution to bilateral ties and people-to-people connections.


The visit comes close on the heels of Dutch Foreign Minister Caspar Veldkamp’s trip to India in April 2025, reflecting a shared commitment to regular, high-level engagement. EAM’s visit has helped further deepen India-Netherlands relations and expand cooperation in sectors of mutual interest.
